English - Spring 2 

Week 1

The Gingerbread Man

This week we focused on the Gingerbread Man story. The boys enjoyed decorating their own Gingerbread Men and especially enjoyed eating them afterwards! We spoke about how the Gingerbread must of felt meeting the fox and wrote some excellent adjectives and sentences. The boys also came up with their own ending to the story and they came up with some brilliant ideas.

Little Red Riding Hood

Our story this week has been Little Red Riding Hood, another Traditional Tale. The boys really enjoyed creating their own wolf and little red riding hood and we also made some wolf pinatas filled with sweets! As a group we discussed the story and spoke about our favourite parts of the story. The boys did some excellent sentences relating to the story.

Week 1

Rivers & Canals

In topic this week we have been talking about rivers and canals. We did some research and watched some videos on why canals and rivers are so important and what they are used for today and what they were used for in the past. The boys then enjoyed creating their own canals and rivers in class. 

Week 2

Coal Mining

In topic this week we talked about mining and how coal mining has changed over the years. We watched some videos of coal mines and spoke about some key events in the history of British coal mining. The boys then enjoyed a coal mining activity where they used a tooth pick to mine the chocolate chips out of the cookies carefully to avoid the cookie crumbling.

English - Spring 1

Week 1

In English this week we have been focusing on the story "The Gruffalo's Child" Cedar class have really enjoyed this story and we have enjoyed creating our own giant Gruffalo in class. 

 

We have also been doing activities that support fine motor skills and working on our sentence building.

Week 2

This weeks story in English this week is The Snail and the Whale. We have done lots of under the sea activities including making our own Giant Whale! The boys also enjoyed describing the characters and using lots of adjectives.

 

We have also been focusing on scissor skills and fine motor activities. 

Week 3

In English this week our story is Room on the Broom. The boys really enjoyed this one. We have looked at the characters in the book and the children have each chosen their favourite and have written sentences including adjectives and drawings to describe their character.

 

Cedar class enjoyed making their own "magic potions" in class.  

Week 4

This week we have been working on our sounds. We have been digging for CVC words and practicing our letter formations and sentence writing. 

Maths - Spring 1

Week 1

This week in Math's we focused on place value, we did some activities outside involving estimation and spoke about what estimation means "having a guess" 

Week 2 

In Maths this week we have been looking at 2D and 3D shapes. We have looked at the properties of 2D and 3D shapes.

Week 3

In Maths this week we have re-visited addition. The boys did really well with addition games outside in the garden area.

Week 4

This week in Maths we have revisited addition. We have looked at addition using two digit column method and regrouping and no regrouping.

P.E - Spring 1

Week 1

Week 2

In P.E. this week we have been focusing on teamwork and invasion skills. Invasion skills include dodging, running, hand eye coordination, spatial awareness and teamwork.

Week 3

In P.E this week we were focusing on "reactions" 

Week 4

In P.E this week we learned all about fencing. Cedar class enjoyed learning all about different rules and different ways to defeat their opponent.

PSHE & Jigsaw

Week 1 

In PSHE we have been looking and talking about our future goals and what is important to us. We also spoke about rules and why rules are important and what consequences are in place when rules are not followed. We had a robot come into Cedar class that made lots of mess and did not follow our classroom rules!

Week 2

This week in Cedar class we have talked a lot about team work. We have had lots of class discussions about team work and what good team work looks like. The boys worked together in PSHE to make a chocolate spread/jam sandwich. They were able to recognise that in some situations it is important to work together and have great team work to get the outcome that everyone wishes for. 

Week 3

This week in PSHE we talked about worries and anxiety. We spoke about things that happen in day to day life that may cause us to worry. Cedar class had some really good answers during our group discussion.

 

We spoke about what we can do to help us with our worries and spoke about ideas for different strategies to help us. 

Science - Spring 1

Week 1 

In Science we are learning all about the rock cycle. The boys enjoyed looking at different types at rocks and exploring how they feel and talking about where they may have come from.

Week 2 & 3 

Theraplay - Spring 1 

Week 1 

We enjoy Theraplay every day in Cedar class. Theraplay helps to build positive relationships with staff and peers. The boys love Theraplay and always engage in the games that we play. 

Week 2

The boys had fun playing body bowling and blanket wrap/swing.

Structured Play

Every morning from 9am until 9.30 we have structured play in class. There are 5 different stations in class for the boys to choose from.

 

We find structured play not only helps build positive relationships between staff and children it helps children with regulation once they have come into school off their taxi.
