At Willow Grove we want to engage, inspire and challenge our children, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to be researchers, and to be confident to develop their own interest in historical learning. As our children progress through school, they will be able to develop their research and questioning skills and gain a better understanding of significant individuals and events that have occurred in history. 

Our History curriculum follows the Grammarsaurus History Curriculum, providing pupils with a carefully sequenced understanding of Britain’s past and the wider world. Children develop their knowledge through four key themes: Society and Community, Exploration and Invasion, Power, and Conflict and Disaster. Alongside building chronological knowledge, pupils develop the skills of historians by exploring evidence and interpretation, cause and consequence, change and continuity, similarity and difference, and historical significance. This encourages children to ask questions, think critically, consider different perspectives and understand how the past has shaped the world we live in today.

Be Safe: We learn from the past to understand how people, communities and societies can make safe and responsible choices.

Be Kind: We respect different people, cultures and perspectives, recognising and valuing the experiences of those who came before us.

Be Positive: We are curious about the past, ask questions and use what we learn to help create a better future.
