At Willow Grove we strive to ensure our pupils meet their potential and are able to participate fully as a member of their community, by providing a high-quality education in English. 

They will be taught to use their expressive language and writing skills to communicate their thoughts and emotions with others. They will also learn how to use their receptive language and reading skills to enable others to communicate with them. 

Through reading in particular, our pupils will have a chance to develop culturally, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually.  Access to a broad and balanced reading diet, will play a key role in such development. Reading also enables pupils both to acquire knowledge and to build on what they already know. 

Our pupils will develop an awareness of how their writing skills will enable them to interact with their community, access their interests and contribute to society. 

We use the Sounds Write phonics scheme.
