Design Technology

At Willow Grove School we believe that all children should use their creativity and imagination, to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of different contexts.  We help children to consider their own and others’ needs, want and values.

Our Design & Technology curriculum follows The DT Network, providing pupils with opportunities to develop their creativity, practical skills and understanding of the design process. Children learn to research, design, make and evaluate purposeful products, developing their knowledge of materials, mechanisms, structures, textiles, food and electrical systems. They are encouraged to identify problems, generate ideas, test and refine their designs, and evaluate their finished products. Through DT, pupils develop independence, problem-solving skills, resilience and an understanding of how design and technology can be used to meet the needs of people and the wider world.

Be Safe: We use tools, equipment and materials responsibly, following instructions and making safe choices when designing and making.

Be Kind: We listen to and value others' ideas, work collaboratively and respect the different ways people approach a design challenge.

Be Positive: We embrace challenges, experiment with ideas and learn from mistakes as we design, make, test and improve our products.
