At Willow Grove School we believe that teaching our pupils Computing is fundamental in giving our children the greatest opportunities to grow and expand their learning and life skills in the future in order to successfully navigate life in our rapidly changing world.
Our Computing curriculum follows the Teach Computing Curriculum, providing pupils with a broad and progressive understanding of how technology works and how it can be used creatively and responsibly. Across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, pupils develop their skills in programming, algorithms, computer systems and networks, data and information, digital media and technology. Online safety is an integral part of our computing provision, helping children understand how to use technology safely, responsibly and respectfully, protect their personal information, recognise potential risks and know where to go for help.
As technology continues to develop, we also recognise the importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in children's lives. Age-appropriate AI teaching helps pupils understand what AI is, where it is used in everyday life, and how it can be used responsibly. Children are encouraged to think critically about AI-generated information, consider issues such as accuracy, bias and privacy, and develop the knowledge and confidence to become competent, critical and responsible users of technology.
Be Safe: We use technology responsibly, protect our personal information and know what to do if something online makes us feel unsafe or uncomfortable.
Be Kind: We treat others with respect online and offline, thinking carefully about how our words, actions and digital choices may affect others.
Be Positive: We use technology creatively and responsibly to learn, explore, solve problems and make a positive difference.
